
Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the latest list of national first-class undergraduate courses. Sanjiang University’s core course “Translation I” has been successfully selected as a National First-Class Undergraduate Course (online-offline hybrid type), marking a major achievement in the university’s teaching and talent cultivation development.
Since its establishment in 2002, the course has continuously focused on enhancing students’ translation skills and comprehensive competence. Over more than two decades, it has undergone systematic development in course content, online resources, flipped classroom innovation, and curriculum ideology integration. Led by Associate Professor Tao Xiaoting and with the involvement of Professor Cai Bin, the teaching team has established a collaborative model that motivates students, integrates technology, and develops critical thinking capability.
This recognition reflects the School of Foreign Languages’ long-term commitment to educational innovation. The school will continue to support teaching innovation, promote the course’s exemplary impact, and contribute to the overall improvement of English major development and talent cultivation quality.
School of Foreign Languages Attends 8th Jiangsu Provincial English Teaching Symposium
From October 17 to 19, 2025, the 8th Jiangsu Provincial English Teaching Symposium for Private and Independent Colleges was held at Kangda College of Nanjing Medical University. Organized by the Association of Private and Independent Colleges under the Jiangsu Provincial Higher Education Institution Foreign Language Teaching Research Society, the event gathered over 50 experts and teachers from more than 20 institutions across the province. Sanjiang University participated as the presiding institution of the association.
Professor Zheng Yuqi, President of the Association, addressed the opening ceremony. He highlighted the challenges and opportunities in reforming English curriculum systems and enhancing intercultural competence in the digital-intelligent era. He encouraged the participants to share experiences and explore new teaching methods with the appropriate application of AI.
Associate Professor He Qingxia, chair of the English Department of Sanjiang University, delivered a report entitled New Liberal Arts, New Frontiers: Value Reconstruction of English Discipline Competitions and the Evolution of Teacher-Student Roles in the Digital-Intelligent Era. She elaborated on how English majors at Sanjiang University utilize discipline competitions to foster teacher-student role evolution and disciplinary development.
In the closing session, Professor Zheng Yuqi summarized the discussions and expressed hope that the insights gained would inspire practical teaching reforms. The symposium provided a valuable platform for exchange and collaboration, promoting foreign language education innovation across Jiangsu’s private and independent colleges. Sanjiang University will continue to collaborate with peer institutions to advance English teaching in the digital era.
