School of Civil Engineering Successfully Hosts Reflections on Civil Engineering Development Prospects and Personal Career Planning Seminar

On March 27, 2025, the School ofCivil Engineering successfully held a theme seminar titled'Reflections on Civil Engineering Development Prospects andPersonal Career Planning' in Room E400 of the Dongshan Campus.Attendees included Cao Yang, a Senior Engineer, member of the YouthLeague Committee of China Construction Port and Navigation BureauGroup Co., Ltd., Project Manager of the General Contracting Company,First-class Registered Constructor, and a distinguished Class of 2019alumnus of the School; Suo Xinhao, a Class of 2021 student in theConstruction Management program, a Jiangsu Provincial 'MeritStudent', and National Scholarship recipient; freshman studentsin the Civil Engineering major; Hou Yuying, Vice Dean of the Schoolof Civil Engineering; Chen Xiaoqin, Secretary of the Student PartyBranch; and freshman academic mentors Mei Qiquan, Lu Yazhen, and SongShanshan. The seminar was moderated by Chen Xiaoqin.

Drawing on his own workexperience, Cao Yang provided a deep analysis of strategies for civilengineering professionals to tackle employment challenges amidstrapid societal changes. He shared the efforts and achievements of hiscareer, emphasizing the critical role that maintaining passion,embracing challenges, and practicing diligence play in personalprofessional growth, noted that 'while effort may not guaranteesuccess, a lack of effort ensures failure', and remindedstudents to cherish their youth and plan their time wisely to createmore possibilities for the future.

Suo Xinhao shared his four-yearuniversity learning journey and the experience behind his academicexcellence. He encouraged his peers to formulate and act upon afour-year academic career plan, and to actively participate incompetitions to enhance their practical skills and apply knowledge toreal-world scenarios. Furthermore, he highlighted the advantages andopportunities available to civil engineering majors in postgraduateentrance exams, civil service exams, and public institutionrecruitment, providing multi-dimensional references for students'future professional paths.

Chen Xiaoqin and Hou Yuyingdelivered speeches, expressing their earnest expectations for thestudents. They hoped that the students would draw knowledge andstrength from the seminar, clarify their own development directions,strive to enhance their professional qualities, and prepareeffectively for their future careers.

This seminar provided freshmenwith a profound understanding of the connotations of their major,stimulated their learning enthusiasm and enterprising spirit, andestablished a solid foundation for their future career planning.
