School Overview

The School of Civil Engineering at Sanjiang University was established in April 2006 through the restructuring of the former Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Construction Management. The former Department of Civil Engineering was founded in 1998 and began enrolling undergraduate students in the Civil Engineering program in 2005, while the former Department of Construction Management was established in 2000 and began enrolling undergraduate students in the Construction Management program in 2006. In 2025, the School introduced new undergraduate program in Intelligent Construction and Smart Transportation, forming a professional landscape characterized by the coordinated development of multiple disciplines.

The School currently offers three undergraduate programs, namely Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Intelligent Construction and Smart Transportation, with a total enrollment of 1,200 undergraduate students. The School comprises the Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Engineering Management, and has established research platforms such as the Carbon Neutrality Research Center for Civil Engineering and the BIM Research Center, alongside the Civil Engineering Experimental Center. The experimental center is equipped with laboratories for Engineering Surveying, Mechanics of Materials, Soil Mechanics, Structural Engineering, Construction Materials, and Hydraulics, as well as the Integrated Civil Engineering and Transportation Laboratory and the Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center.

The School has 52 full-time faculty and staff members, including 8 professors and 25 associate professors, with over 50% of the junior faculty holding doctoral degrees. The faculty includes one Ministerial-level Outstanding Educator, one Provincial-level Distinguished Teacher, one talent of the Jiangsu Province '333 Project', one Young and Middle-aged Academic Leader of the Jiangsu University 'Qinglan Project', and three Outstanding Young Backbone Teachers of the same project. Additionally, the team features one Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Vice President and one candidate of the Jiangsu Youth Science and Technology Talent Support Project. The School actively promotes school-enterprise cooperation and deepens the integration of industry and education. Currently, It hosts two Jiangsu Provincial Industry Professors and more than 10 engineering experts from enterprises such as China Construction Eighth Engineering Division and China Construction Second Engineering Division. This has fostered an integrated industry-education faculty team that combines full-time and part-time expertise, possesses high academic qualifications, and maintains a well-balanced structure of educational backgrounds and knowledge.

The School fully implements the Party’s educational policies and fulfills the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. By adhering to the focus on applied talent cultivation, reforming talent training models, and enhancing the quality of education, related achievements have been awarded the Second Prize of the Jiangsu Provincial Teaching Achievement Award. The Civil Engineering program is recognized as a First-class Undergraduate Program and an Integrated Industry-Education Brand Program of Jiangsu Province. The Construction Management program is designated as a Brand Program of Jiangsu Universities, and the Construction Management discipline is a Key Discipline of Jiangsu Province. Additionally, the School hosts a provincial-level science and technology platform, the Jiangsu Provincial Research Center for Low-Carbon Materials and Green Structural Engineering.

The School attaches great importance to cultivating students' innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities. Over the past three years, students have won more than 160 awards in national and provincial disciplinary competitions, and nearly 100 undergraduate innovation training projects have been approved. Besides, the School emphasizes school-enterprise synergy to co-establish the Industry School of Intelligent Construction with corporate partners, and boasts more than 20 off-campus internship and training bases, including China Construction Eighth Engineering Division 3rd Construction Co., Ltd., China Construction Second Engineering Bureau Jiangsu Branch, China MCC 20 Group Nanjing Branch, Longxin Construction Group (Nanjing), China Resources Group, Jiangsu Jianke Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Hongsheng Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd., and Dianzhu Design Group Co., Ltd.

Throughout its more than 20 years of development, the School has produced over 16,000 graduates, with many distinguished alumni emerging, such as Li Jiang, President of the East China Region of Helenbergh China; Chen Wei, General Manager of Henan Kaihua Wanyang New Building Materials Co., Ltd.; Chen Jun, Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Engineering Construction Standards Station (Science and Technology Development Center of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development); Liu Xiang, Chairman of Jiangsu Yuanhuan Construction Engineering Co., Ltd.; Cai Wei, Deputy General Manager of Haimen City Development Group Co., Ltd.; and Zhang Jiancheng, Associate Professor at Jiangsu University of Science and Technology. These graduates have earned widespread recognition and high praise from all sectors of society.

Rooted in advanced educational philosophies, a strong faculty, and rigorous scholarship, the School of Civil Engineering at Sanjiang University is guided by industry demands and committed to developing distinctive discipline clusters within the context of 'New Engineering'. Moving forward, the School will continue to deepen educational and teaching reforms, enhance the quality of talent cultivation, and supply more interdisciplinary applied professionals to the fields of construction industrialization, smart technology, and transportation, striving to become a first-class provincial and nationally influential training base for applied civil engineering talents.
