Introduction to Sanjiang University

Founded in 1992, Sanjiang University was accredited as a full-time undergraduate institution by the Ministry of Education in 2002. It is the first private undergraduate university in Jiangsu Province and one of the first four private undergraduate universities in China. The University’s name is derived from Sanjiang Normal School, founded in 1902 by Zhang Zhidong, Viceroy of Liangjiang, a key origin of modern higher education in China. Upholding the spirit of “Endure hardships to achieve great things” and the educational philosophy of “fostering virtue and integrity, student-centered, integrating theory with practice, and serving society”, the University is committed to cultivating high-quality application-oriented talents.

Over more than 30 years of development, the University has passed the Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation of the Ministry of Education twice. In 2017, it was approved as a Project Construction Unit for Master’s Degree Conferral in Jiangsu Province. To date, it has graduated more than 100,000 students. It now has 13 secondary schools offering 57 undergraduate majors, covering six disciplines: literature, engineering, management, economics, art and law. The University hosts 3 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 14 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites. Adhering to deep integration of industry and education, the University has jointly built 24 specialized laboratories and 163 off-campus practice bases with leading enterprises including Siemens and Estun, and has established 5 modern industrial colleges. Among full-time faculty, 59% hold senior professional titles, 91% hold master’s or doctoral degrees, and 37% are dual-qualified teachers, ranking first in faculty development among private universities in Jiangsu. In the past three years, the University has undertaken more than 150 national and provincial research projects, with 2 provincial key disciplines and 1 provincial research platform. The University actively conducts international exchanges and runs joint undergraduate–postgraduate programs with world-renowned universities including the University of Adelaide (Australia) and the University of Nottingham (UK).
