Recently, the results of theNational Finals of the 11th International University BIM GraduationDesign Competition were announced. Students from the Department ofConstruction Management and the Department of Civil Engineering atthe School of Civil Engineering, Sanjiang University, stood out inthe fierce competition, winning a total of five awards, including onenational First Prize, two Second Prizes, and two Third Prizes.
The International BIM GraduationProject Competition is a high-level national disciplinary eventco-sponsored by the China Civil Engineering Society and the SteeringCommittee for Civil Engineering Majors of the Ministry of Education,with the assistance of Glodon Company Limited and other enterprises.As one of the domestic construction-related competitions with thebroadest disciplinary coverage and the largest scale, it has beenincluded in the 'National University Student CompetitionRankings' by the Ministry of Education for several consecutiveyears. This edition attracted over 14,000 teams from more than 700domestic institutions and over 10 international universities,involving more than 80,000 faculty members and students, with a totalof over 4,400 entries submitted.
Since the launch of thecompetition, the School of Civil Engineering has attached greatimportance to the event, with the Department of ConstructionManagement and the Department of Civil Engineering collaborating toinvite enterprise mentors and form a professional faculty guidanceteam. During the preparation stage, the mentors provided on-siteguidance to the participating teams 1-2 times a week, focusing on thespecific characteristics of the qualifying rounds and the finals.From model optimization, site layout, and schedule control to costmanagement and result presentation, they refined the details of eachentry according to the characteristics of various modules, ensuringthe overall quality of the work.
Currently, the civil engineeringindustry is accelerating its transformation toward intelligence andsustainability, with the ability to apply digital technology becominga core competency in talent cultivation. The School of CivilEngineering at Sanjiang University has consistently upheld thephilosophy of 'promoting learning and teaching throughcompetition and integrating competitions with education'.Leveraging the School's disciplinary strengths, it has established acurriculum system covering BIM technology, intelligent construction,and project management. Furthermore, the School actively buildsschool-enterprise cooperation platforms and introduces real industryproject cases to strengthen students' practical and innovativeabilities. In this competition, the award-winning works demonstratedsolid technical skills and innovative thinking in digital modelingand construction simulation, showcasing the fruitful results of theSchool’s industry-education integrated education.
The outstanding results achievedin this competition are a vivid reflection of the collaborativeinnovation between faculty and students of the two departments withinthe School of Civil Engineering, as well as a milestone in theSchool’s efforts to deepen educational reform and advanceindustry-education integration. Moving forward, the School willcontinue to use disciplinary competitions as a catalyst, focusing onthe needs of industry digitalization to cultivate more high-caliber,interdisciplinary talents with practical skills and an innovativespirit, thereby injecting new momentum into the development of theindustry.
