Tostrengthen the integration of theory and practice in the 'CivilEngineering Construction' course and enhance students'professional application and practical skills, the School of CivilEngineering organized a field-teaching activity for faculty andstudents from the Department of Construction Management and theDepartment of Civil Engineering on May 7 and 8, 2025. The visit tothe Nanjing Research Base construction project of the China Academyof Electronics and Information Technology, managed by ChinaConstruction Eighth Engineering Division, served as a 'Theory +Practice' bridge to mutually empower learning and industryapplication.
Theactivity began with Industry Professor Mei Jiangtao introducing thefaculty and students to the project profile, design philosophy, design overview, and goals of the Electric Power Research InstituteNanjing Research Base. Drawing comparisons between the theoreticalconcepts of 'construction schemes' and 'constructionorganization designs' found in textbooks, he analyzed the keytechnical focus and challenges of the on-site construction. TheElectric Power Research Institute Nanjing Research Base project is acritical component of the smart grid industrial cluster prioritizedby the Nanjing Municipal Government. Located east of Jiayuan MiddleRoad, west of Suyuan Avenue, and south of Baitang Road in JiangningDistrict, the project benefits from convenient transportation andwell-developed infrastructure. Surrounded by institutions such asSoutheast University, NARI Group, SAC, and Datang Technology Park, the area boasts a strong atmosphere for smart grid research andindustrial development.
Subsequently, under the guidance of project engineers, the faculty and studentstoured the construction site to observe key processes such as specialstructural node construction, secondary structure implementation,mock-up room interior decoration, and basement pipeline installation. The engineers provided detailed explanations of construction processessentials, safety regulation enforcement, and the application of newbuilding materials, all centered on real-world engineering cases.Students actively participated in asking questions about technicalchallenges and industry trends, creating a vibrant atmosphere forinteraction. Through this on-site learning, students gained a deeperunderstanding of textbook knowledge and experienced how theoreticalconcepts are vividly applied in a real construction environment, truly bringing their studies to life. For the faculty, this'outward-bound' industry-education integration activityallowed them to accumulate extensive practical experience andprovided fresh case materials for curriculum reform and practicalteaching.
Thisactivity serves as a key link in school-enterprise cooperation. By'stepping off campus', it allows students to gain firsthandexperience of front-line industry environments, enhancing theirprofessional understanding and interest. The School will continue toadvance the development of industry-education integrated courses, laying a solid foundation for the cultivation of high-caliber appliedprofessionals.
