ConstructionEngineering Cost is a core course for the Construction Management andEngineering Cost programs. To further promote the development of thiscourse and enhance the teaching proficiency of the faculty, theDepartment of Construction Management held its fourth grassrootsteaching organization activity on June 17, 2022. Professor Shen Lingwas specially invited to share her practical experience with theblended teaching model for the Engineering Cost course.
ProfessorShen Ling is the disciplinary leader of the Department ofConstruction Management in the School of Civil Engineering. Longengaged in Construction Management teaching, research, and practice, she has presided over more than 30 research projects at provincial, ministerial, and other levels, and published over 70 papers indomestic and international journals, authored 5 textbooks andmonographs, mentored more than 60 master's students, and serves as areviewer for journals such as Mathematics in Practice and Theory.

Theactivity consisted of two parts: experience sharing anddiscussion/exchange.
First,Professor Shen Ling shared the blended teaching model for EngineeringCost. Drawing primarily on the course she oversees at Nanjing TechUniversity, she detailed a three-step approach:
Step1: Establish a blended teaching organizational structure. Thisinvolves adopting a small-class teaching model and forming an SPOC(Small Private Online Course) teaching team. For the curriculum, classroom learning is integrated with after-class self-study via MOOCand asynchronous SPOC platforms.
Step2: Design a multi-dimensional, interactive systemic curriculum. TheEngineering Cost course is closely linked and synchronized withCourse Design of Building Structures, Engineering Economics, andBidding and Contract Management. Additionally, ideological andpolitical elements are integrated throughout the lectures, oftenusing connections to popular TV series to engage students.
Step3: Specifically explain practical experiences in blended teaching forEngineering Cost.
ProfessorShen’s explanation was profound yet accessible, providing acomprehensive overview of the methods used at Nanjing TechUniversity, including lessons learned from previous challenges. Thefaculty listened attentively and gained significant insights.

Subsequently, the teachers engaged in a lively discussion, exploring thedifferences in course content between Sanjiang University and NanjingTech University and debating how to establish effective blendedteaching methods at Sanjiang University in the future.

Theexchange session concluded amidst enthusiastic discussion.Participating teachers expressed that they felt inspired and plannedto invest more effort into developing online-offline blended coursesand continuously improving their teaching methodologies.
