The Foreign Language Department is an important component of School of Foreign Languages. It is mainly responsible for the foreign language teaching of non-English majors across the university. Adhering to the talent cultivation concept of Let language connect the world and let the world understand China, the department is committed to cultivating and improving students' comprehensive language application abilities.

Faculty

The Foreign Language Department boasts a faculty team with a reasonable structure, rich teaching experience and outstanding teaching and research capabilities. Currently, there are 26 full-time teachers, including 10 associate professors. Among them, 1 teacher holds a doctoral degree and 24 have master's degrees, with teachers holding master's degrees or above accounting for 92% of the total faculty. Several teachers have participated in advanced studies or scholarly visits at renowned overseas universities, possessing solid language skills and cross-cultural communication abilities.

Curriculum

The department undertakes the teaching task of college foreign language courses for undergraduates of non-English majors in the university. The curriculum is scientifically and reasonably designed, covering the following aspects:

·             College English Course A: Mainly for undergraduates of non-English majors. It includes College English A1, College English A2, College English A3 and College English A4, which are completed in four semesters.

·             College English Course B: Mainly for students of art majors, higher vocational program students and Japanese majors. It includes College English B1, College English B2, College English B3 and College English B4, which are completed in four semesters.

·             College Japanese Course: Mainly for undergraduates who chose Japanese in the college entrance examination. It includes College Japanese 1, College Japanese 2, College Japanese 3 and College Japanese 4, which are completed in four semesters.

·             Online Courses: Using modern information technology, the department develops an online-offline blended teaching model to provide students with flexible learning of courses.

Teaching and Research Achievements

In the past three years, while completing the teaching tasks, the Foreign Language Department has actively conducted teaching research and academic exploration. Teachers have published dozens of papers in domestic and foreign academic journals and have authored three textbooks. The average pass rate for the CET-4 (College English Test Band 4) over the past three years has reached 68%, ranking among the top of similar universities in the province. The department also regularly organizes teaching seminars to promote teaching reform and innovation.

Future Outlook

The Foreign Language Department will continue to deepen teaching reform, promote the integration of ideological and political education into the curriculum, and explore the in-depth application of artificial intelligence to foreign language teaching. These efforts aim to further enhance teaching quality, and cultivate high-quality, competitive talents.
